We have a wealth of fresh produce grown locally and often sold from the growers own pick-up or van. The seller drives around the narrow streets shouting, (or sometimes using a dodgy tanoy) to tell you of his wares. As we live on a junction many stop right outside our house.
In our early days one such van stopped outside, it was selling apples, oranges and lemons. I decided I would buy a couple of each. My Greek being even more limited than it is now, I copied the ladies who put all the products into the same bag. When it came to my turn I put my bag on the scales. The man looked inside, then filled the bag up with oranges. I can only assume he thought this was the fruit I would prefer. He then asked for 5euros. It seems the deal was 5kgs fruit equals 5euro money.
This is how I ended up with 30 oranges which is rather a lot for 2 people, but the resulting marmalade was delicious. Ann
